DA wins 23% of Wards in Municpial By-Elections

Eight provinces have seen by-elections this week and a total of 22 wards have been contested by 63 candidates, representing 11 political parties and six independent candidates. Twelve of the 22 elections were being held because of the deaths of incumbent councillors, while 10 councillors have resigned. The Independent Electorial Committee (IEC) has now released the results. 23% of the wards were won by the Democratic Alliance (DA), while the remaining wards went to the ANC. Nine political parties could not win a single ward.

Let’s hope this was no indication for what is to come in the national elections in 2014.
