The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has issued a temporary exemption for foreigners waiting for the outcome of their waiver or visa / visa extension applications.
These measures, instated from the 1st of April 2022 are valid until the 30th of June 2022 in a (most likely futile) attempt to battle the horrendous backlog at the DHA.
Applicants whose waiver application outcomes are still pending
Foreign nationals whose waiver applications are still pending are granted a blanket temporary extension until the 30th of June 2022 for the application to be finalized and for applicants to collect their outcomes. Applicants that wish to abandon their applications and depart from South Africa can do so until the 30th of June without being declared undesirable.
Applicants whose visa extension applications are still pending
Foreign nationals who are awaiting the outcome of visa extension applications are granted a blanket temporary extension until 30th June 2022 of the current visa status. Those that wish to abandon their applications and depart from South Africa can do so until the 30th of June without being declared undesirable. The conditions in the visa must be adhered to at all times until departure from the Republic or, in the case of an approved visa, until such is issued and collected.
Applicants with pending long-term visas
Foreign nationals who originate from countries that are exempt from the port of entry visa requirements and who wish to travel over the upcoming festive season in April 2022, may do so by presenting their VFS receipts on arrival back at the port of entry for admission into South Africa and to collect their visa outcomes.
