Volunteer Visa
General
A Volunteer Visa is technically a Visitor’s Visa under section 11(1)(b)(ii), which allows the holder thereof to perform voluntary and charitable work in South Africa. The Volunteer Visa does allow the applicant to receive a daily stipend to offset their expenses but does not allow for remuneration beyond this and is issued for maximum period of three years.
Requirements
Beside the general personal documents, the main requirement is a letter from the benefit organisation confirming the appointment of the applicant, the motivation regarding the applicant’s suitability as well as the time frame and the confirmation that no salary will be paid.
The organisation employing the volunteer needs to be a charitable organisation registered as Non-Profit Company and being certified as Non.-Governmental Organisation (NGO) or Public Benefit Organisation (PBO).
